Obituary of Sven Eric Laamann

We regret to announce the passing of our father, Sven Eric Laamann Sr. of Sidney, Maine. He died at the age of 64 on April 8, 2023, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
 

He was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Crystal Lake, Illinois. In 1977, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and spent 20 years in service to his country. Some of his most cherished memories while in the Marines were working at SERE school in Rangeley, Maine, Camp Mackall, and visiting his parents native country of Estonia.

As a Marine, Sven made many life-long friends. He touched many lives. He appreciated those around him whether he was wrenching on a Ch-46 or teaching a student to resist the enemy. Following his time as a Marine, Sven also worked as a Prison Guard at the Maine State Prison in Thomaston, Maine, as a Police Officer for the Brunswick Naval Air Station in Brunswick, Maine, and finally as a civilian SERE school instructor for the Army Special Forces at Camp Mackall, in North Carolina, before retiring in 2017. In retirement, Sven enjoyed meeting up for breakfast with friends from his military days, spending time with his grandsons, and constantly hunting for a deal.

He was predeceased by his mother, Astrid Laidroo Laamann, and his father, Uno Laamann, and he left behind his son, Sven Laamann Jr. and his partner Caitlin Anton, his daughter Lindsay Parisi and her partner Travis Parisi, grandsons Sven, Knox, Nico, and Luca, and his beloved dog (and arguably favorite child), Walter.
 

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 22nd at 11:00 AM at the Elks Lodge in Augusta, Maine.
