Obituary of Rose Marie Frick

Rose Marie Frick, born in Irvington, New Jersey on January 30, 1931, passed away at the Sussman House hospice on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. She lived the last years of her life at Bella Point in Camden, Maine. Renowned for her influence in the Maine art world for many years, she represented and launched the careers of numerous Maine artists. During the town of Belfast’s renaissance, the Frick Gallery of Contemporary and Applied Arts was considered one of the most notable galleries on the Midcoast where Rose Marie shared her passion for contemporary fine art and ardently supported local artists. In her early life, Rose Marie was a fashion model both on the runway and as a magazine print model. She then attended the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts, igniting her lifelong passion for the fine arts and setting a path for her career in the art world. She was a curator of the Prudential Life Insurance corporate art collection in New Jersey and New York. She then worked as an account executive for Tiffany & Co. in NYC before moving to Belfast, Maine to open the Frick Gallery of Contemporary and Applied Arts. Additionally, she curated shows in Portland and at a number of coastal galleries over the years. Rose Marie is predeceased by her two sons, John Fairfield III and Stephen James Fairfield. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Eaton Fairfield of Camden, Maine and her beloved granddaughter, Fiona Fairfield Lovejoy.

A celebration of her life and work in the Maine art world with a showing of her private collection will be held in the late spring or early summer of 2025.
