Obituary of Alva M. Williams
Alva Mae Williams, 82, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2024, at her home in Augusta Maine. Her loved ones were by her side, holding her hands.
Alva is predeceased by her parents Henry Williams and Mildred Smith of Louisiana and her two oldest sons Bobby Jo Williams and Noel Williams of St. Louis, Missouri. Alva is survived and lovingly remembered by her son Earl J. Williams and his wife Tenesha of St. Louis, Missouri; her son Christopher J. Williams and his wife Sarah of Augusta, Maine; her Grandsons and Granddaughter DeShawn Williams, DeAnte Williams, DeMonte Williams and Domonisha Williams; and her Great Grandson Anubis, all of St. Louis, Missouri, and many more relatives and friends.
Alva was born July 11, 1942, in Franklin, Louisiana but spent most her life in St. Louis, Missouri where she raised four beloved sons as a single mother: Bobby Jo, Noel, Earl James and Christopher James. Alva loved her baby boys so much and raised them to be hard working loving men. They remember Momma had to be tough at times, but they always knew they were loved and they loved her in return, daily looking after her until her death.
Alva was employed in the cleaning department at St. Louis University Hospital, from where she retired. She formed close bonds with patients while there. Alva was a hard-working woman, generously offering to look after other’s children when she could. She loved children and was especially happy when her grandchildren would visit her.
Alva loved her God, Jehovah. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on April 25, 1987, after studying the Bible and learning about Him and the promise of a better future when “death will be no more”. Alva not only gained a friendship with Jehovah God, but a family of spiritual brothers and sisters whom she loved very much. Alva’s strong belief in the Bible’s promises moved her to help as many people learn about them as she could, teaching her sons at home but also spending many hours going door to door and on the telephone.
In 2017, Alva moved with family to Augusta, Maine, and was welcomed by more spiritual family at the local Kingdom Hall where she attended weekly meetings. She also gained many new neighbors at her home in Hodgkins School Apartments. You could always count on Alva to be making conversation with everyone who passed by in the hallways, community room or outside. She was a beloved treasure in that building.
All of Alva’s family, close friends, neighbors, acquaintances, healthcare workers and even strangers she affectionally called “Baby”. She instantly made you feel at ease and at home.
Alva’s family would like to say “Thank You Baby” to every individual who assisted in looking out and caring for Alva Mae particularly from Augusta Family Medicine, Maine Dartmouth Geriatric Medicine, MaineGeneral Orthopaedics, Seniors Plus, Direct Cremation of Maine and Alva’s extraordinary team at Beacon Hospice.
