Obituary of Carol Jane Dougall
Carol "Jane" Dougall, aged 77, known to all as Jane, passed away on May 13 in Scarborough, Maine from complications due to hereditary hemochromatosis. She is survived by her daughter Kirstin Dougall of San Francisco, and her cousins Debbie Glazer, Pamela Adams, and Marianne Yourdon.
During her long career, Jane served as a librarian at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York where she loved to help students with research. She was a lifelong lover of nature and an accomplished photographer, documenting birds, the sea, flora and fauna for many decades. Growing up on Lake Champlain, she attended college in Boston and later spent twenty years living in Vermont, tending gardens, cooking with gusto and living close to the land. An adventurous camper, Jane frequently set off with her tent to become immersed in the natural world.
Jane was a spiritual seeker and enjoyed political, philosophical and metaphysical discussions across all denominations and ages. In recent years, she facilitated several ongoing discussion groups that continue to foster community and deep thinking. In the last decade of her life, she particularly embraced living on the Maine Coast at Cape Elizabeth, where she had a frontrow view of the Atlantic Ocean in all its glorious seasons. We will miss her inquisitive mind and provocative spirit.
