Obituary of Isabel Hall

1930-2024

AUGUSTA-Isabel Hall of Augusta passed away on January 18, 2024, at the age of 93 after fighting the hard fight to breathe from COPD at Gray Birch Rehab Facility. Isabel was born December 25, 1930, to Arvilla and Arthur Trask of Manchester, Me. She attended Augusta schools and graduated from Cony High School and attended most of the reunions.

Isabel was employed at the Kennebec Journal, Hallowell Shoe, Togus VA Canteen, and for over 35 years as a receptionist at the front desk at Gray Birch Rehab facility until she retired in her late 80s.

As a young girl Isabel enjoyed many summers on Squirrel Island being a nanny to Judge Farrington's family of Augusta, which created a love of Boothbay Harbor that she shared with her children until her passing. As an adult, she also spent many weekends with her sister Florence at their family camp at Five Islands in Georgetown where she would walk the beach collecting sea glass. Isabel spent countless hours at the American Legion post 2 where she was a member of the women's auxiliary and held many officer positions, loved attending conventions, and received numerous awards for her dedication. The legion knew they could count on her for her love of decorating, cooking, and donating for any occasion. Saturday nights you could meet up with Isabel (Izzy) and her friends at the Legion dancing and laughing the night away, also into her late 80's. Izzy was famous for making her New York-style cheesecake, her love of eating it, and her love of lobsters in all forms and red velvet cake.

Family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers knew Izzy for her infectious smile, blue-green eyes, and her overall happiness. She was the glue that held the family together and ready to help others.

Isabel is survived by her children John and Pam of Augusta, Janet and Peter Grant of W. Gardiner, Linda Hall, Keith Hall, and Allison of Windsor. Several grandchildren Peter Grant and family, Josh and Bobbi Grant and son Spencer, Tammy and Jon Stred and daughters Emma and Kayla, Meaghan and Micah O'Brien and daughters Gracie, Abigail and Charlotte, Nickolaus Hall, Colby and Alysia Whynot and sons Wesley and Miles along with special nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the valuable people who work at Gray Birch for their love and care and dedication to our precious mother who loved you all, some of whom she called long-time friends and coworkers.

At the end, we found our strength to watch our mother pass with Beacon Hospice navigating the way and their compassionate people at the helm. Also Dr.Caron and Dr. Monica Trask moms long-time doctor and caregiver, we will be forever grateful.

Arrangements were handled through Direct Cremation of Belfast. There will be a family graveside service in the spring at the Forks Cemetery in Manchester. Isabel will be buried beside her aunt Lena Gidgney, the person who raised her after her own mother died when she was 3, Lena was also a loving grandmother to Isabel's children.

Please make any donations to Legion Post 2 of Augusta, a cause that Isabel was passionate about being the true American that she was.
