Obituary of Donald S. Tracy
Donald Scot Tracy, 88, of Rockport, Maine, passed away with loved ones at his bedside on November 14, 2023, at home, his favorite place to be. Don was born in Portland, Maine, the only child of Donald and Sylvia Tracy. In his younger days he spent time at his grandparent’s Edward and Elsie Tracy’s home in Bucksport, Maine, a time in his life he remembered fondly. As a child he attended schools in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, and in 1957 graduated from Colby College with a B.A. degree in Physics. Following graduation, he began what he thought would be a 20-year career in the US Air Force, starting with an assignment in Kotzebue, Alaska, then on to Texas, and Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. It was during these years that he married and started a family. It was also at this time that Don encountered two of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and while intending to quickly get rid of them, the scriptural conversation that ensued spoke to his intellect and his heart. He spent the rest of his life studying the scriptures and building his faith in them, while his background in physics contributed to confirming his belief in a creator and the purpose for our earth and the people on it. And speaking of people, Don was definitely a people person. Whether it was fearlessly sharing his faith out of love for them or the generosity and hospitality he extended, there was no doubt that in his way, he loved everyone. Out of all people though, there was a special place in his heart for his family, especially his wife of 48 years, Linda. He worked hard through a number of career changes to support her and his 6 children, also while trying to provide for them spiritually and morally to give them a chance at the best life he believed possible. He will be missed by all and remembered for his good-natured and friendly persistence in the things that mattered to him.
Don is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Cynthia Sawyer and her husband Ryan, Lee Tracy and her husband Joel, David Tracy and his wife Karen, along with their mother; his other children Heather Lincoln and her husband Josh, Holly Tracy, Andrew Tracy and his wife Lisa. Also his grandchildren Erika Yeater and her husband Nathan, Mark Tracy, Eric Tracy, and Tommaso Tracy, as well as his great-grandson Dylan Yeater. Don is predeceased by his grandson Peter Tracy.
