Obituary of Jane Marion Fowlie

Jane Marion Fowlie, age 88, of Rockland, Maine passed away after a period of declining health, on Friday, October 6th at the Sussman House in Rockport, Maine.  

Born in St. George, Maine on March 30, 1935, she was the daughter of William and Lempi Lammi Polky, raised in Rockland, and attended local schools. 

In 1953 Jane married Clayton L. Fowlie from Rockland. They started raising their family of four sons together in the South end of Rockland. Later, they purchased a home on Spruce Street in Rockland where Jane resided for 60 years. Clayton and Jane were married for over 40 years. 

Jane truly loved being at home, both inside and outside in the yard. Her home was the focal point for all family holidays and celebrations. She most enjoyed having a family member or friend come over for tea and cookies, usually a mint Oreo or Keebler’s Fudge Stripe. Her candy bowl, on the kitchen table, was always full. She enjoyed painting, reading, watching the news, listening to music on her CD player or her radio, doing puzzles, going for a boat ride, and going to the beach.  

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, neighbor, and sister-in-law. She was very involved with her grandchildren‘s upbringing and was famous for making them her chop suey for supper, pancakes for breakfast, and playing UNO. She enjoyed going to their various after-school sports events and high school plays.

Jane was predeceased by her parents, her husband Clayton, her brother Leonard Polky, and her twin sister Janette Fowlie. 

She is survived by her sons, Clayton Fowlie Jr and his wife Deeanne from Mustang Oklahoma, Gary Fowlie and his wife Lisa Foss from Camden, Kevin Fowlie and his wife Christine from Rockland, and Craig Fowlie and his wife Amy from Rockland.  Also, she is survived by 11 Grandchildren and 12 Great grandchildren with two more on the way! Special people in her life were Charlotte Campbell, Greg Polk, Dottie Grant, Katie Wiley, Barbara Gushee, and the late Sheila Hastings.

As per Jane’s request, there will be no funeral services and there will be a family committal service at a later date.
