Obituary of Sylvia J. Pierpont

Sylvia J Pierpont, 64, died peacefully from a long battle with COPD on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at the Sussman House in Rockport.

Sylvia was born on May 17, 1959 in Rockland to Almond and Leona (Wellman) Pierpont. She attended Rockland schools and graduated in 1977 from Rockland District High School with her CNA certificate. Sylvia worked as a CNA for 40 years in local nursing homes and later in home hospice. In her youth she was a member of Silver Starlet Theta Rho Girl’s Club #12, attaining the office of Vice President of the Theta Rho Assembly of Maine. She was a free spirit, and loved hanging with her best friends, bombing the rotary, bike week in Laconia, dance, going for long drives to nowhere, and going upta camp to watch the grandkids swim, and to sit by the campfire. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s sporting and dancing activities.

Sylvia is survived by her children, Damon and Mariah Pierpont and Shane and Stephanie Pierpont; her siblings Susan Dates, Nathan & Brenda Pierpont, Nancy & Harry Fitzgerald and Martha & Sheldon McLean; and her grandchildren, Shakira, Darius, Ariana, Alexander and Felicity. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother-in-law Chet Dates who passed away on August 9.

The family would like to thank Hospice and the Sussman House for their excellent care of one of their own, she couldn’t have done it better herself.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 2:00 at the Village Cemetery in Thomaston, with a reception immediately following at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Rockland.
