Patricia always loved cooking and baking for her grandchildren and Church dinners. Old fashioned soft Molasses cookies were her specialty! She was known for knitting potholders, reading, spending time with family and her beloved pets, Baxter, Pepper and Andy. Each year the family would vacation for two – three weeks in Oxford, Maine at Dunn’s Camps. She would prepare wonderful homemade meals with no hot-water and never complained. Later in life the family enjoyed the time in their own cottage on Webber Pond, Vassalboro where the family enjoyed the beautiful sunsets. But in a few years the family started going back to Dunn’s Camp, planning a family reunion there in the summer of 2023. Additionally, she loved doing crafts with her kids, grandkids, and Sunday school children.
One family adventure that her children always remembered was a mission trip to the Joy Bible Mission, Nassau, Bahamas when we traveled by car to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and flew to Nassau. We set up a black/white TV in the car with a clothes hanger for an antenna outside the vehicle. Then in the evening we cooked hot dogs in the motel room and the alarm went off and the local fire dept. arrived. The two weeks we spent in Nassau was full of exciting activity. Then there was the time we went camping on Cape Cod cooking potatoes, peppers, onions and spices in aluminum foil over an open fire. We always enjoyed our time with mom.
She enjoyed traveling around the world including: Japan, South Korea, Jordan, Israel, Mexico, Canada, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Bahamas, and their winter home in Barefoot Bay, Florida. Pat and Ken traveled to Spain to visit their daughter, Melissa and grandson, Jaden, whose husband; James was stationed with the Navy there. We spent eight weeks traveling around Europe including Rock of Gibraltar and Vatican City.
Traveling on a cruise ship wasn’t her cup of tea but she journeyed on three cruise ships and was always glad to arrive back in her own home. Her fur babies would always wait for her to come through the front door...
She was a member of the Thomaston Baptist Church, and attended the Friendship United Methodist Church, where her husband is a part-time pastor. She was heavily devoted to her Christian faith, and together, their ministry extended throughout New England.
She volunteered at the Good Shepherd Food Bank early on when the food bank was located in Lewiston, and loved her volunteer work with the Gray Animal Farm. She assisted in raising the necessary funds to repair the church steeple on Swan’s Island.
Patricia owned the Farm Made Ice Cream Shop, Jefferson, and the GoodNews Bookstore and Gift Center Brunswick/Topsham, Maine. Pat was a candidate in 2000 for the Maine House of Representatives. She held a position as the Steward with Bar Harbor’s Maine Seacoast Mission aboard the Sunbeam 74-feet Vessel. In this position she traveled on board the vessel to Maine’s outer islands offering a welcome respite to all outer island residents. The Sunbeam offers healthcare via the ship’s medical staff and state-of-the-art telehealth facilities. Pat was also co-owner of the Hockamock Place Self-Storage and Management of Swan’s Island, and a co-founder of the Bread of Life Food Pantry of Swan’s Island.
During Pat, long illness, Daughter, Melissa, spent many months traveling, back and forth from Florida, Daughter-in-law, Julie filled right in when Melissa wasn’t able to be with mother and daughter-in-law, Holly would take care of Baxter when needed.
Patricia favorite song that she requested to be sung at her Celebration of Life was written by Jill Jackson and Sy Miller.
Let there be peace on earth.
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on earth
The peace that was meant to be.
With God as our Father
Brothers all are we.
Let me walk with my brother
in perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me;
Let this be the moment now.
With every step I take
Let this be my solemn vow;
To take each moment and live
Each moment in peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2023 in Lewiston, Maine. Interment will be held at the Clough Cemetery in South Lewiston, Maine at that time.
The family would like to thank Maine Health Hospice for the loving caring care that Patricia received.
