Obituary of Lorraine C. Cottrell

Lorraine Cottrell, 87, of Winthrop, ME, passed away on October 19, 2022, at Woodlands Memory Care in Hallowell, ME.

Lorraine was born to Gilbert “Bud” and Eugenie Clifford on March 4, 1935. She grew up in Winthrop, ME, with her sister Joan and brother, Gregory. Lorraine was proud to attend and graduate from Sacred Heart Academy in Jackman, ME. She worked for the Internal Revenue service for many years, before marrying Carl Cottrell on July 25, 1969. Together they happily raised two daughters in Winthrop. After several years as a stay-at-home mom, Lorraine went back to work in the bookkeeping and accounting field. She retired as office manager from Winthrop Fuel Company. She was happily married to Carl for 52 years. Lorraine enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, and volunteering for the soup kitchen and St. Michael parish. She will be fondly remembered for her kindness, clever wit, and delicious baked goods, especially her raspberry bars.

Lorraine was predeceased by her husband, Carl Cottrell.

Lorraine is survived by her daughter Jennifer Hoffman and her husband Clay, daughter Carrie Maguire and her husband Sean, grandsons Noah and Joshua Hoffman, Aidan and Dylan Maguire, all of Augusta, ME. She is also survived by her sister, Joan Galouch of Litchfield, ME, brother, Gregory Clifford of Palm Bay, FL, brother-in-law Paul Cottrell and his wife Marion of Winthrop, ME, lifelong friends Pauline Dostie and Irene Charpentier, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to thank Woodlands Memory Care of Hallowell for the loving and thoughtful care provided to Lorraine for the past three years, and Androscoggin Home Health and Hospice for their help and guidance.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 5, at St. Francis Xavier church in Winthrop, where she was a lifelong parishioner. Burial will immediately follow the service at Glenside Cemetery in Winthrop. Condolences can be shared at Directcremationofmaine.com.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael School, 56 Sewall St, Augusta, ME 04330. Her daughters both teach at St. Michael and all four grandsons attended or are attending St. Michael School.

Lorraine will be greatly missed by all that loved and knew her.
