Betty Fitzherbert peacefully passed away August 29th at her home at Durgin Pines, Kittery, after a 16-year struggle with Parkinson’s. She was surrounded by family including her loving, supportive caregivers.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, Thurlow, of 63 years and a sister, Dawn Roy. She leaves her children: Terry and wife, Robin; Carol and husband, Wayne: Laurie, and Kathi and husband, Jeff; grandchildren: Phillip, Danielle, Jennifer, Cecilia, Jillian, Whitney and Christopher; and great-grandchildren: Jaiden, Raini, Lucy, and Hank. Betty is survived by her very dear sisters: Jeanne, Phyllis, and Lois.
Betty was born in Brattleboro, Vermont in 1934, daughter of Corys and Hazel Heselton; raised by her stepmother, Alice Heselton. She graduated high school in Northfield, Massachusetts.
After marriage, she raised her family, first in Bernardston, Massachusetts, and later in Bangor, Maine. She nurtured in her children an appreciation of family, creativity, exploration, nature, kindness, courage, respect and perseverance.
Betty will be long remembered for her faith, courage and grace, her wonderful sense of humor, and lastly, her contagious smile and sparkling brown eyes.
A private family remembrance will be held at a future date. Memories and condolences may be shared on her tribute wall.
