Obituary of Chester Pendleton

CRABIEL-RIPOSTA FUNERAL HOME 338-9191 Belfast Chester A. ”Chet” Pendleton, 76 passed away peacefully at his home March 26, 2009 after a long illness. He was born October 29, 1932 in Searsport, the son of Maurice and Violet (Evans) Pendleton. He graduated from Searsport High School where he excelled in basketball and baseball. After high school he served in the U.S. Army. When he returned in 1954 he became a tradesman in pipefitting, working throughout New England and Michigan for various paper companies. He was a 52 year member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters local #716. He was a member of the American Legion Post #0157, a former member of Mariners Lodge and the Belfast Lions Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed that time with his brothers, sons and grandsons. He was a devoted Red Sox fan over the years. Chet is survived by his wife of 34 years, Hazel (Jackson) Pendleton of Belfast, his daughter Sandra Sylvester and her husband Peter of Searsport, son John, retired U.S. Navy, now of Belfast, son Dale and his partner Michelle Blood of Searsmont, grandson Jeremy Sylvester and his partner Kari Raymond along with great-granddaughter Keira Sylvester of Searsport, granddaughter Kathleen Sylvester and her fiancée Christian Nellson and his two sons Devon and Austin of Searsport, grandson Neil Pendleton of Mass, and granddaughter Rebekah Pendleton of Portland. Chet is also survived by his brother Richard and wife Robbie Pendleton of Stockton Springs, sisters Marion Hall and Janie York of Searsport, Arlene Clements and husband Andrew of Belfast, plus many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Maurice, George and Elden, his sister Kathleen Whitcomb and his first wife Rebekah. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, March 30th at United Methodist Church on Mill Lane with Rev. David Abbott officiating.
