Obituary of Clifton C. Field

Clifton C. Field, Jr., a resident of Brunswick, Maine died November 30, 2009. He was 89. Mr. Field, formerly of Upper Montclair, N.J., retired to Cumberland Foreside in 1987 and relocated to Brunswick in 2003. Mr. Field was the son of Clifton C. and Martha Burt Field and was born in Natchez, Mississippi. He was raised in New York, New York, attended DeWitt Clinton High School and graduated from Columbia University in 1946. He served in the US Army Air Corps in Saipan during World War II. In 1946 Mr. Field met and married the former Georgiana Pentlarge, moved to Montclair, N.J. and joined the Western Electric Company. During his 38-year tenure at the company, Mr. Field served as editor of a number of company publications, wrote position papers and speeches and for a time served as company press spokesman. He was also an active volunteer in Montclair government. Mr. Field was a voracious reader throughout his life and also enjoyed canoeing the Delaware River with his daughters and summers on Martha’s Vineyard. In retirement he spent several summers studying Spanish in Madrid and bicycling in Europe. Mr. Field was the husband of the late Georgiana Pentlarge Field and is survived by his second wife, Freela C. Field. He is also survived by his three daughters, Martha Cagwin of Mill Valley, CA, Georgiana Devine of Jericho, VT and Barbara Field Curry of Cohasset, MA, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
