Obituary of Charles Vertlet Merchant

Charles Vertlet Merchant Sr., 72, passed away Jan. 11, 2010, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. He was born June 25, 1937, on Beals Island, son of the late Franklin and Pauline (Seavey) Merchant. Charles was a lobster fisherman for many years. Some would say he was the best at what he did. He was a Shriner and a Mason. Charles was predeceased by his former wife, Annie (Alley) Merchant; and a brother, Donald Merchant. Charles is survived by a son, Charles Jr. and wife, Tama, of Addison; two daughters, Minnie Kozlowski and husband, Michael, of Beals Island and Cynthia Wilcox and husband, Frank; four grandchildren, Amanda and Charles Merchant, Christine Kozlowski and Sara Wilcox; and brothers, Sherman, Eugene, Richard, Allan, Bertram and Almond and their families. We thank Maine Coast Memorial Hospital and staff for their great support during the past week. At his request, there will be no services.
