Obituary of Francis Hannon

FRANCIS JOSEPH HANNON, 63, of Belfast, passed away at his residence on March 17, 2010. He was born December 5, 1946, in Newton, Massachusetts, the son of Patrick and Agnes (Walsh) Hannon. Frank graduated from Boston College in 1968, served in the United States Navy from 1968 through 1971, and then received a master’s degree from Duke University in 1973. He moved to Belfast with his family in 1978 to become the Executive Director of Waldo County General Hospital, a position in which he served through 1983. From 1983 through 1995 he was President of Affiliated Healthcare Systems in Bangor, followed by private consulting with Healthcare Business Development. In 1997, he returned to his beloved Belfast where he served as Director of Operations at Waldo County General Hospital and Executive Director of Penobscot Shores Retirement Community until his retirement in 2008. Predeceasing him were his parents; his sister, Patricia Hannon; and his brother, John Hannon. He is survived by his children, Brian Hannon; Mark Hannon and wife Samantha Briggs Hannon, and Jay Hannon and wife Jenni McKee Hannon; his brother, Thomas Hannon and wife Kathy; his sister-in-law, April Hannon; one granddaughter, Lila Beatrix Hannon; a niece, Cindy Hannon; and a nephew, Shaun Hannon and wife Kathy and their two daughters. Frank enjoyed the company of family and his many friends, reading, travel, history, writing poetry, and was a lifelong fan of the Red Sox and Boston College. Informal memorials will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, between 4 and 6pm at the Lookout Pub, 34 Front Street, Belfast, Maine, and Thursday, April 15, at 4pm at the Hannon family plot in Newton Cemetery, 791 Walnut Street, Newton, Massachusetts, with a gathering to follow. All are invited to join the family in saying goodbye to a dear friend.
