Obituary of Paul A. Couture

In Loving Memory Paul A. Couture 8/13/1923 – 4/28/2010 PAUL A. COUTURE, 86, died peacefully at his longtime residence in Acton, Maine on April 28, 2010. He was born August 13, 1923 in Biddeford, Maine the son of Conde and Agnes (Cimon) Couture. He referred to himself as being descended from Franco-American parents. Enlisted in early 1943 he was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. Sergeant of 35th Infantry Division, Company L 134th Infantry Regiment where he served overseas in France, Belgium, Holland, Luxemburg, and Germany until the end of the war. Paul had many hobbies. His wife was a big source of encouragement. Among them he worked with carving tools and a variety of paint medium. His home is a work of art both inside and out. He entered many art contests, including several years with the Maine Migratory Waterfowl Stamp Art Contest. Many of his paintings are in private collections; City of Baltimore, Maryland, City Hall rotunda; but he made us very proud when in 1976 he was commissioned by WASCO Products, Inc to work on a mural depicting 200 years of various historical events in the Sanford-Springvale area. Unveiled in 1978 it is on permanent display and can be seen at Sanford’s Louis B. Goodall Memorial Library. His latest works consisted of humorous three dimensional wood and fired clay figures on oil painted canvas panel. Paul spent most of his life living and working in Maine, only moving to Mystic, Connecticut when his job at Saco-Lowell was relocated further south than he wanted to go. He worked for Electric Boat in Groton for nine years before his family desire to move back to Maine was realized. Moving to Acton, Maine in 1966 he worked for WASCO Products, Inc until retiring on his birthday in 1985. He loved and enjoyed spending time with family and friends touching people’s lives in a special way. Those who knew him will never forget his positive outlook on life along with his quick wit and smile. Paul will be greatly missed but will always be in our hearts. Paul was predeceased by his brother Gerard Couture and daughter-in-law Kathy (Anderson) Couture. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Irene (Chretien) Couture, son Marc of Cape Neddick, ME, his sister Marguerite Preisser of Newington, CT and many nieces and nephews. The family intends to have a small private memorial in the future to celebrate Paul’s life. On-line condolences may be offered to the family at directcremationofmaine.com. The family would like to thank Dr. John McGuckin, the office nurse Cindy, and the staff for their loving, compassionate and competent care over the years.
