Obituary of Owen Buzzell Paul
Owen Buzzell Paul, 93, passed away at his home (the same home in which he was born) in Waldo, Maine on Thursday May 13, 2010. He was born February 28, 1917, the son of Herbert and Ruth (Lu Cammett) Paul. He graduated from Crosby High School , class of 1934. He spent five winters in Maine lumber camps as a sawmill worker. He worked four years as Supervisor of Dairy Herd Improvement Associations, working with and advising Dairy Farmers. He was a veteran of World War II, serving 16 months in the Pacific Area. He was employed with the U. S. Postal Service with 33 years of service credits, retiring as Postmaster. He spent much time with the young people in the area as a Boys and Girls 4-H Club Leader, Boy Scout Master, square dance caller and a coach to many Grange youth competitions. He was a 65 year member of The Grange, having served as Master at both the Subordinate and Pomona levels and was Deputy Master of the Maine State Grange. Throughout his life, he was an avid hunter and gardener.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Mildred Hamlin Paul and an infant son, Howard Ashley Paul. He was also predeceased by three bothers and one sister: Stanley Paul of Waldo, Ashley Paul of California, and Verna Nickerson of Brooks, Maine. He is survived by a daughter, Rose Collins of West Gardiner, Maine; a son, Richard Paul of Addison, Maine; a son, Herman Paul of Waldo, 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to call from 10-11 a.m. Monday May 17th at the Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue Belfast, where funeral services will begin at 11:00 a. m.
