Obituary of Marion Ackerman

Marion “Edythe” Ackerman was born June 15, 1921 in Knox, Maine. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Mildred (Lang) Hawkins. She graduated from Morse Memorial High School in 1939. Edythe moved to York, Maine and married Leonard Freeman in 1944. For many years Edythe operated Freeman Oil Service in York, Maine. She also worked for several years in the library at York Middle School. Edythe was an avid gardener, seamstress and dancer. She was a member of the Varney Fellowship in Brooks, Maine. She worked collecting shoes for the Adopt an Iraqi Village Project in 2004 , as well as a relief effort for victims of the Honduras Hurricane in 1999. Edythe returned to the Belfast area in the 1980s and lived first in Waldo and then in Belfast. She attended Brooks UCC Church in Brooks. She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard “Lenny” Freeman, son Barry and by her siblings Philip Hawkins and Frances Hall. Survivors include her children, Sally Pachulski and husband Dennis of Raymond, Maine, Jennifer Freeman and husband Gary Mitchell of Kittery, Maine, Leonard Freeman and wife Marianne of Hawaii, Timothy Ackerman and wife Edith of Melrose, Massachusetts, and Melissa Ackerman of Richmond, Virginia. She also leaves six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Her niece Linda Lord and her husband Russell and her nephew Steve Hall and his wife Roxy all of Brooks, Maine have been an integral part of her life since she returned to the Belfast area. Memorial Service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 19th at Brooks Congregational Church. Graveside committal will be held 11:30 am on Thursday May 20, 2010 at First Parish Cemetery in York. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Town Line Animal Shelter, 4 Baker Rd., Belfast, ME 04915. The family wishes to thank nurses of Waldo County General Hospital and Waldo County Hospice Program for their compassionate care.
