Obituary of Michael T. Wellman

MICHAEL T. WELLMAN, 40, died unexpectedly at his residence in Belmont on May 26, 2010. He was born April 24, 1970, son of Clyde Sr. and Verlesta (Hills) Wellman in Norfolk, Virginia. Upon retiring from military service, the family moved back to Maine in 1977 where Mike attended local schools and graduated from Belfast Area High in 1988. He had a lifelong kidney disease and spent the last 31 years of his life on dialysis treatment three times a week. He had such a positive attitude and enjoyed life to the fullest. His many friends and acquaintances were amazed at his accomplishments and his willingness to help others regardless of his situation. Mike never let his illness, dialysis treatment and three failed kidney transplants discourage him from reaching his goals and dreams of a full education and full-time employment as an auto parts counterman for VIP and for the last seven years as a commercial manager for Auto Zone. Much of his social life centered around his many friends, his motorcycle, 4x4 truck and working on his dream car – a 1976 Trans Am. He also enjoyed playing his electronic baby grand piano. To all who knew him, there will only be one Michael. He was predeceased by two sisters, Cheryl and Teresa. Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Clyde Jr. and his wife Anita, Ronald and his wife Holly; one niece Maranda; numerous aunts and uncles. Friends and family are invited to attend memorial services at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast at 1 p.m. Friday, June 4th. Graveside service will follow at Hills Cemetery in Lincolnville. All are welcome to return to Belmont Community Building, 613 Back Belmont Road to share memories and refreshments. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to the National Kidney Foundation, 470 Forest Avenue, #302, Portland, ME 04101 in Michael’s memory. On-line condolences may be offered to the family at www.ripostafh.com.
