Obituary of Verna H. Pendleton

VERNA H. PENDLETON, 89, entered into rest on August 17, 2010 at Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 21st at the 2nd Baptist Church with Rev. David R. Bareford officiating. Our mother, Verna Allison Gray, was born on December 29, 1920 in Camden, Maine to Emery Dodge Gray and Florence Barton Gray. She graduated from North Brooksville High School in 1939 in the building built by her Grandfather Gray. Verna, a wife, mother and homemaker, spent many years providing delicious meals for private homes, Islesboro Central School and the Tarratine Yacht Club. She received the honor of Worthy Matron in the Eastern Star. Her daughters looked on with pride at Verna, through great tenacity and determination, as she received an Associates Degree in Science at the University of Maine in 1990 at the age of 70. She was predeceased by her first husband, Forrest Raymond Hale in 1965, second husband, Albert “Bucky” Pendleton; three brothers, Howard, Stephen and Douglas Gray; three sisters, Alta Cole, Barbara Webber and Irene Gray. Verna leaves behind four daughters, Anne Smith, Rita Smith, Linda Sarkany and Kathy Paradis; 29 grandchildren; great-grandchildren & great-great-grandchildren. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery on Islesboro where she lived for over 50 years. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Boardman Cottage, Islesboro.
