Obituary of Shari Gail Wight

SHARI GAIL WIGHT, 51, a resident of Belfast, passed away the morning of Wednesday, September 8th, 2010 at Eastern Maine Medical Center after a short, strong battle with lung cancer. Shari was born October 3, 1958 in Monroe, Louisiana and was raised by her mother Juanita Lawrence in Belfast, Maine. She attended Belfast Area High School. Shari had lots of talent and success with her occupation of sewing, first with the company of Creative Apparel, then as co-owner of her own business Just A.S.K. where she hand-crafted beautiful handbags of leather and tapestry. She became a mother at the age of 23, and from that point on devoted her life to being the strongest, most loving and devoted mother she could be. There were times of single parenthood for her with her two children, and nothing stood in her way of always making them feel safe, that they would never be in need and loved to the fullest. At the age of 36, she met and married her one and only husband, Geoffrey Olin Wight. Shari is the love of Geoffrey’s life, and he took her and her two children into his heart and life for eternity. Geoffrey allowed for his beautiful wife, Shari, to retire at an early age so that she could spend her time exactly as she wished as his wonderful wife and mother and free spirit. Shari lived her life to the fullest, and her path was in only the direction she chose to go. Her days were filled with passions of sun worshipping on the water’s edge, camping, kayaking and many country-side cruises to enjoy the foliage or whatever beauty Maine’s season had to offer, usually with best friend, Harriet, at her side. You could always find her dancing to music with a Michelob in her hand, and it was hard not to resist wrapping your arms around her and joining in the swing. One of her proudest days was this past December 5th, as she attended her daughter’s wedding. She smiled, hugged, danced and loved the night away praising her first love for all she had accomplished. Precious to her were the nights spent with her son as they enjoyed their tradition of Mom’s home-cooked dinner and an episode of Lost. An animal lover for sure, she adored her pug, Zippy, and her kitties, Fatzine, Fiesty-girl-peenie and Clarence (cutest kitty in the world). Shari was always there for her friends and family in need. A truly selfless wife, mother, sister and friend, she is the sunlight of our lives. We will love, miss and cherish her always! Shari is survived by her husband “her soul-shine” of 16 years, Geoffrey Olin Wight of Belfast; daughter “ her sunshine” Jasmine J. Bowen Keithan and husband, “her stars-shine”, Cody of Belfast; son, “her moonshine” Daniel Wood of Belfast; sister Linda and brother-in-law Donnie Martin of Marrero, Louisiana; brother Clarence Lawrence II of Belfast; brother Wayne Lawrence and sister-in-law Debbie of Belfast; mother-figure Marjorie Bowen of Belfast; mother and father-in-law, Nelson and Ola Wight of Belfast; sisters and brothers-in-law, Greg & Julie, Vangie & Steve, Heidi, George & Tim of Belfast, Alaska and California and her dear friends, Harriet Wing of Searsmont and Tom Bowen of Morrill. Shari’s family would like to extend their most sincere appreciation to Dr. Mir and to the nurses of EMMC for their kindness and true compassion in their care towards Shari during her three-week battle. We cannot thank you enough for your comfort and fight for her life and allowing us to be with her during her last days with us. An outdoor celebration of life for Shari will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 3rd at the residence of Harriet Wing, 26 South Main Street, Searsmont. All who wish to reminisce in her spirit and pay tribute and condolences to her and her family are welcome. If friends would like to make a memorial donation in honor of Shari, her family asks they be made to the Townline Animal Shelter, 46 Baker Road, Belfast, ME 04915. Shari had so much love for animals and would have given them all a home if she could. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast. On-line condolences may be offered to the family at www.ripostafh.com.
