Obituary of Donald W. Hawes
DONALD W. HAWES, 81, passed away September 8, 2010 in Bangor. He was born in Portland on July 19, 1929, son of Willis and Lillian (Todd) Hawes. He served as Second Lt. in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He received his Bachelor Degree from Boston University and his Masters Degree from Northeastern University. Donald had worked many years as an Advertising Manager and in his later years for the U.S. Post Office. He was a member of the Association of Industrial Advertisers where he served as secretary and director; the Advertising Federation of America; Alpha Delta Sigma, an advertising fraternity as well as the Order of DeMolay. One of his proud moments was serving as an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America.
Donald was predeceased by his parents and his daughter, Cheryl (Hawes) Blommel and is survived by his companion, Gloria Gratia Danielson of Northport; his children, David Christian Hawes of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts and Douglas Alan Hawes of Centerville, Ohio; brother Richard Manning Hawes of Myrtle Beach, North Carolina; grandchildren Nicholas Blommel of Fairborn, Ohio and Leigh-Ann (Blommel) Sarkis of Columbus, Ohio.
A memorial service and burial of cremated remains will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast.
