Obituary of Josephine Bonomo Cenedella
Josephine Bonomo Cenedella, 94, passed away peacefully from complications after hip surgery surrounded by her loving family at the Presque Isle Nursing Home in Presque Isle, Maine on September 29, 2010. She has gone to be with her Lord and savior whom she loved dearly.
She was born September 4, 1916 in Pittsburgh, PA, one of the ten children of Samuel and Josephine (Solla) Bonomo, who were born in Sicily, Italy, came to the USA in the early 1900’s and operated a small Italian grocery store. After attending Westinghouse High School in Pittsburgh, Josephine married Joseph Louis Cenedella in 1938 and had three children’ Dr. Richard Cenedella of Isle of Palms, SC, Raymond Cenedella of Plantation, FL and Dr. Arlene Cenedella of Easton, ME and Loxahatchee, FL. In addition to raising her family, Mrs. Cenedella worked in secretarial capacities as a Gray Lady Hospital volunteer and loved to play bridge. She was a member of the Mt. Lebanon Presbyterian Church in Mt. Lebanon, PA and the Plantation Community Church in Plantation, FL. She was well known for her inspiring (and not too long) pre-meal graces.
She is predeceased by her parents; her loving husband of almost 50 years, two sisters, Clara Bonomo and Mary Raccopi of Pittsburgh and four brothers; Anthony, Conrad and Frederick of Pittsburgh and Samuel Bonomo of Sacramento, CA.
Three brothers, James of Columbus, OH, Carl of Tuscon, AZ and Alaska, and Albert Bonomo all of Pittsburgh survive. Included in her survivors are three children, three grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren; son Richard, His wife Andrea and their three children, grandson David, his wife Anna, Gread Grandsons Joseph, Nick and Louis Cenedella of Evergreen, CO, granddaughter Laura and her husband Jeff, great grandchildren Tyler, Kendall and Madison Schonekase of Overland Park, KS and granddaughter Susan and her husband Jim, great granddaughters Ashley, Sabrina and Michelle Shorrow of Derby, KS; son Raymond; daughter Arlene and her husband Warren Sims, their daughters Laura Sims Gallitano, Sarah Sims Erhmann, Deb sims-Olson, and grandchildren Samual, Ella and Ruby.
She always remembered her Dearest friends; Sophia Hildabrand and Gwen Bonomo.
A service of the remembrance and interment will be held in Pittsburgh in the near future at a time to be announced. She will be burind with her beloved husband Joseph at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Penn Hills, PA.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be sent to the charity of your choice or visiting nurses and hospice of Aroostook county.
