Obituary of Wayne W. Clark
WAYNE W. CLARK, 73 of Swanville, husband of Frances (Floyd) Clark for 52 years, died peacefully December 23, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family following a long illness. Wayne was born June 4, 1937 at home in Stockton Springs to Walter F. and Frances (Crawford) Clark. He went to school in Stockton Springs and graduated at age 17. He entered the U.S. Navy right after graduation where he served during the Korean War.
Wayne worked as a winchman at Searsport docks for I.T.O. He also worked in the woods and drove his own logging truck before buying Swan Lake Grocery in 1964 which they ran for about eight years. Wayne also worked for the Postal Department retiring after 26 years due to sickness. Wayne was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish. He raced snowmobiles in Maine, New Hampshire and Canada winning many prizes and trophies in the late 60s and early 70s.
He married Frances Floyd in 1959, and they had six children – three boys and three girls, Wayne W. II and wife Connie of Monroe, Michael F. and companion Penny of Swanville, Kevin S. and companion Debbie of Swanville, twin daughters Sherry Garton and husband Stephen of Searsport, Shelly Lindelof and husband Bruce of Swanville; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Patricia Herbest of Evergreen, Alabama and Donna Fraser and husband Bill of Stockton Springs; many nieces and nephews. Wayne was predeceased by infant daughter Rita and his parents Walter and Frances Clark.
Memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, December 30th at Swanville Community Church. Refreshments and fellowship will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Swanville Community Church in Wayne’s memory. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast.
