Obituary of Norman P. Kenney

NORMAN P. KENNEY, 88 of Belfast, died April 6, 2011 at Tall Pines in Belfast. He was born in Knox, Maine on June 10, 1922, the son of Fred L. and Lucy A. (Sayward) Kenney. He graduated from Morse Memorial High School in Brooks in 1939 and took a Correspondence Course in Business Administration from The American Technical Society of Chicago, Illinois in 1940. He was a 50-year member and Past Master of the Marsh River Lodge No. 102. He was a veteran of World War II taking basic training at Camp Wheeler, GA serving in the Philippine Islands and the Army of Occupation in Japan with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Returning home from the service, Norman was employed by Monmouth Canning Co. of Freedom, Liberty and Union for 22 years. He was Treasurer for the Town of Knox for 12 years, Treasurer of the County of Waldo for 20 years and assessor for the City of Belfast for 19 years retiring in 1987. Norman was President of the Maine Association of Assessing Officers in 1974-75, President of the Maine Chapter of the International Association of Assessing Officers in 1982-83 also serving these organizations on various committees. Norman always loved hunting, fishing and gardening in his spare time. He loved the State of Maine. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife Shirley and is survived by two sons, Brent Kenney of Waldo, Kevin Kenney and wife Adeline of Walnut, CA and several grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to call from 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 11th at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
