Obituary of John E. Holland

Belfast- John E. Holland, 43 passed away Monday May 23, 2011, at Togus Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born on January 4th,1968 at Waldo County General Hospital, the son of Geraldine R. Holland and the late Edward G. Holland. John was discharged from active duty on December 2, 1994 after which he transferred to the Naval Reserves. He was assigned duty on the U.S.S Detroit during desert storm/shield. He was awarded the Coast Guard Special Operations Ribbon; Sea service Deployment Ribbon; First Good Conduct Award for period ending Febuary 23, 1991 and the National Defense Service Medal. John enjoyed fishing and was deeply loved by all his family and friends. He is survived by his mother Geraldine Holland; sister Leslie Holland and brother Jamie Holland all of Belfast. John is survived by his three children whom he loved very much, Kasey L. Doolan of Union; Sierra and Justin Holland of Pennsylvania, and his very special ex-wife Melissa Holland also of Pennsylvania. He is also survived by special niece and nephew, Lynsey Holland and daughter Chantel M. Levesque and Jered Holland. John is survived by his special 89 year old grandmother, Winnifred Philbrook and uncle Skip Philbrook, wife Brenda and two cousins Lauren and husband Pete; and Brian Philbrook, and many other cousins, aunts and uncles residing locally. He will be greatly missed by many special friends included but not limited to Joey Gibbons of Ellsworth, Shawn Bean of Brooks; Shawn and Steve Clements and Heidi Gibbons; Vertene Carter and many, many others. A service celebrating John’s life will be held on Thursday, May 26th, 2011 at 11:00 am at Grove Cemetery where he will be reunited with his father. A reception and small luncheon will be held downstairs at the American Legion Hall in Belfast (Entrance across from MacLeod’s Furniture on High Street, Belfast. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the family of John Holland c/o Geraldine Holland 9 Bell Street, Belfast Maine, 04915. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast. Memories may be shared graveside and photos for a collage may be dropped off at his mother’s home to be displayed graveside and at the reception immediately following.
