Obituary of Lawrence A. McKenney

LAWRENCE A. McKENNEY, 81 of Winthrop, passed away August 5, 2011 in Augusta. He was born September 3, 1929 in Sanford to Abbott and Evangeline (Mailhot) McKenney. He graduated from Maine Central Institute in 1949, attended University of Miami in Coral Gables in 1954. Larry served in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1949. Larry played baseball for one year on an Air Force team while stationed in Japan. Larry was past president of the Augusta-Manchester Lions Club. Larry loved to hunt, fish, golf and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox. Larry married Mary (Ellis) McKenney on September 16, 1950. He was employed at Statler Tissue. He was Superintendent of the pulp mill, and also started his own paper recycling business McKenney Fibre. He retired from Economics Laboratory as a chemical salesman. Larry was predeceased by his brother Robert and his son Ronald L. McKenney. Survivors include his wife, Mary; daughter Laurie Barnes and her husband Chuck of Winthrop; grandsons, Chris McKenney of California and Brian Barnes and his wife Kristen of Winthrop; granddaughter Hilary Pottle and her husband Sam of Winthrop; great grandchildren, Darien, Mary, Alexis, Jacob, Brandon, Olivia, Leah, Haley, Chelsea. A private service will be held for the family. The family is so very thankful for the wonderful care from Dr. Hall and his nurse Sarah.
