Obituary of Anne Buttimer McNally

Anne Buttimer McNally, 100, passed away at her residence in Searsport on Sunday, August 7, 2011 of congestive heart failure. Anne was the loving wife of the late William J. McNally, devoted mother of William Jr. and wife Lorraine Zack, Joanne, Timothy and his wife Donna Aspito, and Martha Grove and her husband M. Dean; Proud grandmother of Katie McNally, Megan Roberts and husband Ryan, Susan McNally, Michael McNally and wife Nicki Etscheid, Matthew McNally and wife Brooke Frary, Maureen Reed-McNally and wife Karla Reed-McNally, Joanne Grove Walsh and husband Kevin, Sarah Grove Draftz and husband Jeremy and William Grove. Delighted great-grandmother of Connor, Dylan, Hannah, Jack, Aidan and Isabella McNally, Ellie and Jack Roberts, Nathan and Ashley Draftz, and Madeline Walsh. Loving daughter of the late Timothy Buttimer, born Gurranreagh in County Cork Ireland and the late Johanna McCarthy born Kilmichael in County Cork Ireland. Fond sister of the late Cornelius Buttimer and the late Margaret Dalton. Caring aunt of eight nieces and nephews. Adoring companion of pet dogs Malarkey and Snickers. Anne Buttimer was born October 7, 1910 in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from Chicago Normal College in the early 1930’s she was employed as a primary school teacher by the Chicago Board of Education and taught at the Faulkner and Byford schools. She and Bill raised their family in the Austin community on the west side of Chicago. Anne retired in the early 1970’s and with her husband, Bill, moved to Pompano Beach, Florida. After Bill’s death Anne moved back to Chicago to be close to her grandchildren. When her daughter, Joanne, moved to Maine, Anne started spending part of her time in Maine and in 2007 she moved full time to Searsport. Until her move to Maine, Anne was a long time parishioner of Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago. In her last months, Anne received wonderful care from Waldo County Home Health and Hospice. Memorial services will be held in Chicago, Illinois. At Anne’s request, those who wish may make memorial donations in her memory to Hospice Volunteers of Waldo County, 119 Northport Ave., Belfast, ME 04915 or to Belfast Area High School, Anne McNally Scholarship Fund, 98 Waldo Ave., Belfast, ME 04915.
