Obituary of Flora L. Flanders

FLORA L. FLANDERS of Liberty died Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Hospice Unit at Waldo County Hospital following a brief illness. Flora graduated from Northborough High School in Northborough, Massachusetts and Becker Junior College, Worcester, Massachusetts. She worked for many years at Hebert Candy Mansion in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts before starting the Forest Orchard Archery and Sporting Goods Store in Northborough with her husband, Cliff. She and her husband, along with their daughter Carol, ran the business for 25 years and had a world-wide customer base. They also published many articles on the sport of archery. She was a Girl Scout Leader for many years and a long time member of the Trinity Church in Northborough, MA. She shared her husband’s love for flying their Piper Cub “Tinkerbell” out of the Westborough, Mass. Airport and spending as much time as possible at their cabin on Washington Pond in Washington, Maine with her family and friends. After retiring, they moved to Liberty, Maine. Flora was secretary of the Sheepscot Lake Sports Club for many years and was a member of the snowmobile club. She was an active member of Liberty Baptist Church in Liberty, Maine. Her hobbies included camping, canoeing, baking, knitting, sewing, reading, gardening and photography. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Clifton M. Flanders and her parents, James and Karin Kasperson Dickison. She is survived by her two daughters, Carol L. Renaud of Naples, Florida and Linda D. MacLeod of Liberty, Maine; a sister-in-law Evelyn Flanders of Spencer, Mass; five grandchildren, Deborah, Michael, Michele, James and John; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; one niece, three nephews and several cousins. Family and friends are invited to call from 10-11 Saturday, September 17th at Liberty Baptist Church where funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. A burial service will take place at Howard Street Cemetery in Northborough, MA at a time to be set by her family. Those who wish may make donations in Flora’s memory to Waldo County Hospital, Hospice Unit, 118 Northport Avenue, Belfast, ME 04915.
