Obituary of Sylvio J. Dennis

Sylvio J. Dennis, 89 of Winslow, passed away peacefully at Gray Birch Rehab and Long Term care facility in Augusta after a long illness. He was born in Winslow on May 5, 1922, the son of Paul and Amanda (Giguere) Dennis. He attended schools in Winslow before proudly serving his country in the United States Army during WWII. He was involved in the Rhineland Campaign in Germany where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart and EAME Theater Ribbon. He was recently honored with the Maine Silver Star for his military service. Sylvio worked for many years in the aircraft manufacturing industry from Maine to California. After moving back to Maine, he worked doing carpentry work eventually retiring from the Town of Winslow. Sylvio was predeceased by his parents, 3 brothers, Norman, Charlie and Raymond Dennis and 3 sisters, Evelyn, Yvette Roy and Jeanette Rousseau. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ann Huard Dennis of Winslow; stepson Randy Huard and wife Connie of Winslow, daughter Cynthia Nordby and husband Wes of Minden, Nevada, and twin daughters Joy Roberge and husband Scott of Vassalboro, and Jill Vigue and husband Rick of Winslow. Eight grandchildren, Mike Huard, Mark Huard, Kevin Arnold, Heather Beaster, Ricky Vigue, Ashley Roberge, Kylee Roberge and Nicholas Roberge; Two great grand children, Mackenzie Huard and Malyn Beaster and one great grandson on the way as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their appreciation to MGMC in Waterville and Gray Birch in Augusta as well as the staff at Togus Veterans Facility and HealthReach Hospice Care. At Sylvio’s request, there will be no service or visiting hours. A private family ceremony for his committal service will be held at the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta.
