Obituary of Corliss Holland

CORLISS A. HOLLAND, 88, died November 16, 2011 at a Rockport hospital. He was born October 24, 1923 in Stonington, the son of James and Daisy (Stockbridge) Holland. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, a member of Frank Hazeltine Post #43, American Legion and the Northport VFW. Corliss was a member of Phoenix Masonic Lodge of Belfast, the First Baptist Church in Belfast and the Gideons. He was a tugboat Captain and a member of the Lobsterboat Racing Association. He worked as a lobsterman most of his life and enjoyed lobster boat racing, winning many races with his boat “The Red Baron”. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Lillian; an infant daughter Christine and a grandson Travis R. Flagg. Survivors include his son Glenn Holland and his wife Cathy of Belfast, his daughter Sheila Dassatt and her husband Mike of Belfast; Andrea Holland and companion Richard Orne of Southport, Edward and wife Kelley of Portland, Christy and husband Murray of Newcastle. Six great grandchildren: Gavin, Emily and Cooper Holland of Portland and Kaden, Audrey Marie and Hanna of Newcastle. Family and friends may call at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast on Friday, November 18th from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 19th at First Baptist Church, High Street, Belfast. Graveside service with military honors will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 22nd at Forest Cemetery in Stonington. Memorial donations may be made to: Downeast Lobsterman’s Association Scholarship.
