Obituary of Gerald W. Whitcomb

GERALD W. WHITCOMB, 85 of Waldo, passed away on February 10, 2012 in Belfast. He was born on July 24, 1926, the son of Fletcher and Vivian (Howard) Whitcomb. Jerry completed his associates degree in Accounting and Finance at Bentley College in Massachusetts. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Jerry was a selectman for the Town of Waldo for 20 years as well as a MSAD#3 school board member for 18 years, serving as chairman for 12 years and was a moving force behind the development of the Waldo County Vocational Technical Center. He was the office comptroller for Maplewood Poultry for many years until their closing in 1980. Jerry worked at various business within the community including WCCSA, Maritime Energy and finished his working career at MacLeod’s Furniture. After retiring, he continued his tax advising and preparation for many people in and around Waldo County which was a passion of his. He was also very involved in St. Francis of Assisi Church and was a long-time member of Knights of Columbus where he held the position of fourth degree. He is predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife Gloria; his two brothers, Donald and Richard Whitcomb. Jerry is survived by his children, Frank Whitcomb and wife Jean of Colchester, Vermont, Ann Marie Sweeney and husband Kenneth of Waldo, Dianne Kazilionis of south Portland, Billy Whitcomb and wife Monique Roy of Belfast, and Lawrence “Gus” Whitcomb of Waldo; his grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason, Ben, Gerald, James, Selena, Vanessa, Levi and Kendra; six great-grandchildren, Tella, Anesia, Moriah, Ricardo, Megan, Sarah; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and pets Jackie Boy and Clem. Friends and family are invited to call from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, February 19th at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast. A mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. on Monday, February 20th at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Court Street, Belfast. Interment will be held for Jerry and Gloria in the spring at Paul Yard Cemetery in Waldo.
