Obituary of Betty Ann Grindle

BETTY ANN GRINDLE, 76, died peacefully at her residence on Islesboro surrounded by her family on February 21, 2012. She was born in Belfast, ME on October 20, 1935 to Earl and Mary (Rinauld) Hart. She was a single mom who raised eight children. She completed her high school education in 1980 and received her driver’s license when she was in her late 40s. She enjoyed camping, going to the races in Unity and traveling to Millinocket area to see moose and would toss marshmallows out the window as she watched the bears. She loved knitting, gardening, spending time with her family, especially her grand children and also loved spending time with her birds and cats. Her home was always open to make room for one more. She was predeceased by her first husband, Merrill Ray Coombs; her second husband, Roland Miller and her third husband, Erland Grindle Sr.; also a daughter Elaine Miller. Survivors include her mother, Mary Hart of Islesboro; her children, Michael and his wife Kellie Coombs of Windham, Kenneth and his wife Tori Coombs of Islesboro, Sheila Coombs and her partner Jamie Greager of Islesboro, Rusty and his wife Rowena Coombs of Rockport, Peter Coombs, Jennifer Day and Andrew Coombs, all of Islesboro; her sister Willie Pendleton of Islesboro; seven grandchildren. A time to celebrate Betty's life will be held from 11-2 March 10th at Sporting Club on Islesboro. Bring a favorite dish to share with family and friends. Those who wish may make donations to Islesboro Health Care Center, Islesboro, ME 04848 in her memory. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast.
