Obituary of Katherine Jackson Place

KATHERINE (JACKSON) PLACE, 74 of Morrill, passed away at her residence surrounded by her family on February 25 2012. She was born on April 24, 1937 in Morrill, Maine to Horace and Esther (Clark) Jackson. She was a graduate of Crosby High School Class of 1956. After graduating high school, she worked at Depositors Trust Bank until she started her family and was a full-time homemaker and mother for 31 years. After raising her children, she worked at Waldo County General Hospital for 16 years in the Housekeeping Department and retired from there in 2002. She loved gardening and the beauty of the outdoors, her pets, and she was known for her wonderful cooking and baking. Kathy raised huge vegetable gardens which she canned and stored for her family for the whole winter. Some of her favorite activities were picking wild berries and making preserves. She also enjoyed making and selling wreaths with her children and camping trips with her husband in the Maine woods. One of Kathy's favorites spots besides her home was the family camp at Eagle Lake in Hancock County. She was very involved in the Morrill community, founding the Ladies Firemen Auxiliary while her husband was fire chief. She was the Morrill excise tax collector for a few years and was always an active participator in town fund raisers whether it was quilting, crafts, bake sales or public suppers. Kathy also was the bookkeeper for her husband's business, R.E. Place Garage for many years. She is predeceased by her parents and a granddaughter, Brooke Elizabeth Place. Kathy is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Royce Place of Morrill and her children, Carol Larrabee and husband Harold, Randy Place and wife Tina, Joanne Allen and husband Dave, Allyson Annis and husband Leon, all of Morrill; grandchildren, Brandi Jo, Belinda, Blaine Place, Kasey Brooke Annis, all of Morrill, Amanda Wetherington of Belfast, and Erica Brewer of Virginia; four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be announced in the spring. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in Kathy's memory to Hospice Volunteers of Waldo County, PO Box 772, Belfast, ME 04915.
