Obituary of Shirley M. Reed

WINDSOR -- Shirley M. Reed, 89, of Windsor, died May 17, 2012, at Country Manor Nursing Home in Coopers Mills. Shirley was born in Augusta on Aug. 18, 1922, the daughter of Dennis Frank and Hazel (Colburn) Millett. Shirley attended school in Windsor, graduated from Erskine Academy, class of 1940, and then attended Gates Business College in Augusta. On June 15, 1946, she married George P. Reed in Windsor. She retired after 28 years of service with the state of Maine, working in the departments of Agriculture and Human Services. In life and retirement, Shirley was an avid sewer, knitter and quilt maker. Also, in helping George with canning many different fruits and vegetables. Shirley was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, George P. Reed; her parents, Dennis and Hazel Millett; and sister Margaret "Peggy" Millett. Shirley is survived by her three sons, Thomas G. and his wife, Louise (Caswell) Reed, of Windsor, Dennis F. and his wife, Claudia (Orff) Reed, of Jefferson, and Mark A. and his wife, Serene (Garcia) Reed, of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; six grandchildren, Shawn D. Reed of Westbrook, Eric T. Reed of Glendale, Ariz., Kevin V. and his wife, Eleanor (Seavey) Reed, of Rockland, Elliot S. Reed of Cleveland, Ohio; and Victoria D. Justice and Madison G. Reed of Sherman Oaks; six great-grandchildren; and several distant cousins. The family would like to thank all members of MaineGeneral HealthReach Hospice, MaineGeneral Medical Center, Dr. Kemp, Dr. Silver, and Care Manager Perez-Blaisdell.
