Obituary of James Lloyd Cunningham

JAMES LLOYD CUNNINGHAM, 71, passed away July 13, 2012 in Belfast after several years of declining health. Jim was born in Camden, Maine on February 18, 1941, the son of Bertrand and Shirley (Gray) Cunningham. On August 26, 1967 he married Doris “Dotty” Johnson in Belfast where they have lived in the same home for close to 45 years. He grew up in Searsmont and graduated from Camden High School in 1959. James served in the US Army from 1963 to 1965 stationed in Berlin, Germany. After returning from duty, he worked for a short period of time for SAD 34 in Belfast. On August 9, 1966 he went to work for St. Regis Paper Company in Bucksport retiring from International Paper, Bucksport on January 1, 2003. Jim’s main passion in life was his beloved land in Searsmont where he spent many hours grooming and meticulously taking care of the land. He was an avid muscle car enthusiast of the 50s, 60s and 70s periods and was very knowledgeable of engines and all cars of those eras. He loved spending time with his grandsons and was very proud of their accomplishments. He was quick to mention these accomplishments to family and friends. He was looking forward to meeting a new grandchild due in December. Jim was a member of the American Legion and an inactive member of the Masons. He was especially appreciative of the support from family and friends during his decline in health. He is survived by his wife Doris; his two daughters, Amber B. Frisch and her husband Jason and their two sons, Zachary and Brayden of Hampden; Amanda B. Cunningham and her husband Andrew Pagano of Portland; one sister Ann Cheney of Chester, NH, and a niece Cheryl George and family of NH; on uncle, one aunt and several cousins. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, July 20th at Grove Cemetery in Belfast where he will be laid to rest with his best friend Marvin who has been waiting to find his final resting place. Rev. Dr. Susan Stonestreet will perform the service. After the service family and friends are invited back to the Cunningham home for refreshments and conversation. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast.
