Obituary of Richard Garland Alley

Richard Garland Alley Jr., loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully on December 28, 2012 after a brief illness. He was born June 29, 1959 to Dick and Mary Louise (Gray) Alley. As a young boy “Ricky” loved riding his dirt bike at the track on Park Street and in McQuinn’s Pit near his Grandparents house in Hulls Cove. He always said the view from the top of that hill was worth the trouble he’d get into for being there. He also enjoyed being a “young” uncle to Todd Alley and Jennifer Clemons. He didn’t realize how much they looked up to him. During his high school and college years, to the dismay of his mother and Aunt Mary Lou, Rick went on many adventures with his cousins, Chuck, Peter and Tim Alley and his friends Tom and Scott Riddell. He also had many fun and harrowing times at camp with his cousins Lori and Toby. The memories they made will last a lifetime. In 1981 he met his future wife Ronda (Tait) Alley and for the next 31 years they focused on building memories with their children, Nick and Brianna. Many fun filled weekends were spent at camp on Molasses Pond-away from the “busyness” of life, swimming, kayaking and sitting around the campfire telling stories. New Year’s Eves were often spent on Isleford with dear friends, Mitch and Denise McCormick. Rick’s passion was his family and he delighted in cooking meals filled with love and many tantalizing aromas. He wanted his family to know the joy of waking up on weekend mornings to the smell of something yummy cooking. The joy of his life was born Christmas Eve 2009, little Asa Lucian. Rick loved being a grandfather and Asa loved it when Poppa cooked “poppacorn” for him! Rick was known to mosh with his son at The Kave, make gingerbread houses with his daughter, enjoy a good glass of wine with his wife and scream at the television during a Red Sox or other New England Sport team events; the many facets of one man. Although his precious heart stopped beating we will cherish each and every memory he made with us. Rick will be sadly missed by his wife Ronda, his son Nick and girlfriend Carianne Bente; his daughter, Brianna, husband Pete and their son, Asa Neblett, sister Cathy, nephews Todd and wife Kerrie Alley, and Alex Miller; many extended friends and family. Rick was predeceased by his parents, his sister Debbie Miller and her daughter Jennifer Clemons Novak. A celebration of Rick’s life will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 2:00pm at the Masonic Lodge in Bar Harbor with Minister Sara Hayman Huisjen officiating. Bring food, memories and stories to share. Donations may be made to the Park Street Playground Project where his Grandson and future Granddaughter will spend many hours playing. Please make checks payable to the Park Street Playground Project and send to Ronda Alley, 17 Compass Harbor Lane, Bar Harbor, ME 04609. Let’s make this the playground that love built.
