Obituary of Phyllis Pat Urbanek

Phyllis (Pat) Kennedy Urbanek entered into eternal rest on the evening of October 3, 2013 at Maine General Hospital in Augusta surrounded by her family. Born Phyllis Marie Kennedy in Damariscotta, Maine on February 26, 1928, she was the daughter of Thomas A. and Doris Cox Kennedy. She was a graduate of Lincoln Academy and of the Augusta General Hospital School of Nursing. She is a former member of the Penney Memorial Church in Augusta and has been a member of the Old South Church in Belgrade since 1957. She has been a Registered Nurse since 1949, relinquishing her license to inactive status in 1994. She was married to Dan M. Urbanek in 1950 and they enjoyed 45 years together before his death in 1995. She will be lovingly remembered and with the utmost respect by her younger sister, Charlotte Kirkpatrick of Woolwich, ME, her elder son, Matthew Dan Urbanek and his wife Loretta in Kernersville, NC, her daughter Charlotte Lee Urbanek of Belgrade, ME and her younger son, Michael F. Urbanek and his wife Linda of Jeffersonton, VA. ; four granddaughters, Kaia Lynn Urbanek, Kara Ann Lee, Michelle Lee Urbanek, and Tina Marie Hernandez; two step-grandsons, Jon and Chris Bradshaw; and one great grandson, Dylan Chamberlain. Also her former daughters-in-law Catherine Urbanek and Susan Urbanek . Her dearest treasures were her two Siamese cats, Beau Geste and d’Artagnan, who were loving companions and a source of great comfort to her. Although she enjoyed sewing, crafts, and her gardens, her greatest joy was teaching and guiding her offspring through their various degrees. She was a gracious and giving person and touched many lives with her wonderful knowledge and ability to teach. She will be missed by many. There will be a Memorial service at the Old South Church in Belgrade at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11, to be followed by a reception at the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army and local Pet shelters. Arrangements are under the care of Direct Cremation of Maine 182 Waldo Ave. Belfast, ME 04915
