Obituary of Phyllis A. Nickerson

Phyllis A. (Winters) Nickerson, 95, of Belfast passed away on October 5, 2013. She was born on July 27, 1918 in Tacoma, Washington to Lloyd and Avis (Benedict) Winters. Phyllis was the only daughter of a career Army officer. She married a young Marine Capt. in 1939 after a shipboard romance. They married at the Presidio in San Francisco. They were stationed in many places on both coasts during their 35 years of service. They retired to N. Carolina where her passion for gardening and flower arranging could blossom. She was a great story teller and wrote many of them down for her family to enjoy. They spent many summers in the family home at Ducktrap, Maine. They moved to Belfast in 1997 and resided at Penobscot Shores. She is predeceased by her parents Lloyd Nelson and Avis Lucille Winters from Clyde and Green Spring OH; her mother and father in law, Emma Eva Carver Nickerson of Lincolnville ME and Herman Nickerson Sr. of Lincolnville ME, her husband Lt. Gen. Herman Nickerson, jr. and her brother in law, Carver Nickerson also of Lincolnville ME. Phyllis is survived by her daughter Dennis Anne Nickerson, her son John Herman Nickerson and his wife Sheila who reside in Belfast ME; grand children Sherry Anne Nickerson of Chehalis WA, Patricia Anne Casey of Nashua NH and Mary Margaret Sczepaniak of Belfast ME; great grandchildren John Ryan Casey and Scarlett Siobahn Casey of Nashua NH.
