Obituary of Joseph Normand Marois

Joseph Normand Marois, 81 died Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME. He was born in Augusta, Maine on August 22, 1932, the son of Edward and Juliette Marois. He attended Augusta schools and was a former member of the army. He returned home to work several jobs through the years including Augusta Supply Company, the Town of China as a school bus driver for China and Erskine Academy as well as Lapointe Lumber. Normand was part owner of the former S&M Market where he and his wife ran the family store with his in-laws George and Helen Starkey for 40 years. He was a life-time member of Le Club Calumet and drove the bus for the Sharpie’s Drill Team, as well as the So. China American Legion. Normand loved to spend most of his time helping others and playing with his grandchildren. For his 81st birthday in August, Normand was surprised with a birthday party on the family water front to include his entire family. He could not stop telling everyone how that was the best day of his life. He was predeceased by his parents, brother, Richard and 2 sisters, Therese Bell of Chelsea and Constance Lapierre of Augusta. He is survived by his wife Julia of 55 years, his six children, daughter Norma and partner David Salley, Nancy Beadling and husband Raymond, Ronald and his wife Kim, Michael Marois, Melinda and husband Marshall, and Robert Marois. He has eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren whom he loved dearly as well as several beloved nieces and nephews. Normand’s favorite past time was taking rides with his children any time the car left and nightly bingo tickets. There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers donations may be made the Harold Alfond Cancer Center or the So. China Volunteer Fire Department.
