Obituary of John Douglas Beverly

John Douglas Beverly, 79, of Union, went home to be with his Lord on January 6, 2014, in Union, Maine. He was born to Paul C. Beverly and Mary A. Phillips Beverly on November 8, 1934. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1954-1958, and served God his whole life. After graduating from Arizona Bible College, he worked as a missionary in the Bahamas; a pastor in Canaan, Maine; a school teacher near West Stephentown, New York, and also Bucksport, Maine. He enjoyed ministering to the residents of Seven Tree Manor and other nursing homes. He loved to teach anyone interested in learning about God’s Word. John Beverly was a quiet man who loved to make things of wood. He crafted boats, furniture, shelves, and toys. He loved reading books, chatting with friends, and especially teaching young children. He loved to tell stories, recite poetry, and sing songs. John was husband to Ileen Beverly for 55 years, who preceded him to heaven last year. He was father to Yvonne Grace Blake (husband, Randall), Phillip Chase Beverly (wife, Donna), and Jonathan Hugh Beverly (wife, Tracy). He was grandfather to Grace Godwin (husband, Matthew), Caleb Blake (wife, Kimberly), Benjamin Blake (wife, Jessi), Anna Raymond (husband, Christopher), Stephen Blake (wife, Lauren), Lydia Webber (husband, Donald), Micah Blake (wife, Grace), Abel Blake (wife, Jenny), and Landis Beverly. He was great-grandfather to Sawyer Godwin, Cora Blake, Audrey Blake, Carter and Mika Raymond, Malcolm Blake, Evelyn and Eliot Webber, and Gabriel and Alana. He was predeceased by his siblings: Roy Beverly and Eleanor Afflerbaugh, his son: Douglas Michael Beverly, and his great granddaughter: Emma Ileen Blake. John Beverly’s desire in life was to know God. Philippians 3:8 "I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord." A memorial service will be held at the South Hope Community Church on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at 2:00 pm. Donations may be made to the South Hope Community Church.
