Obituary of Royce G. Smith

ROYCE G. SMITH, 90, of Liberty passed away January 11, 2014 at his home. He was born October 20,1923. He attended schools in Stockton Springs and went to National Youth Administration School in Houlton for diesel mechanic. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 during WWII in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. Royce worked as a carpenter from 1946 to 1951 and then moved to Kittery to take a job at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He later worked at Pease Air Force Base and retired from there in 1974. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Louise (Knowlton) Smith; two daughters, Gerry Randall and her husband John of North Berwick and Jane Bourassa and her husband Bob of Liberty; five grandchildren, Michelle McLaughlin and husband Michael, Jay Randall and wife Deb, Kathy Hnatow and husband Keith, Jim Bourassa and wife Katherine, Andy Bourassa and wife Katie. He also had 10 great-grandchildren. Royce is also survived by two brothers, Floyd Smith and wife Dorothy of Pembroke NH and Sheldon "Tink" Smith and wife Jerry of Stockton Springs; two sisters, Glenna "Sis" Salley of Sandy Point and Judy Files of Sandy Point and husband Steve; many nieces and nephews. Royce was a member of the Sandy Point Congregational Church. He was a 67-year member of Pownal Lodge #119 A.F. & A.M., a life member of Arbutus Chapter #19, O.E.S. and Jerry Dobbins Chapter of the American Legion in Sandy Point. Friends and family are invited to call on Tuesday January 14, 2014 from 6-8 pm at Riposta Funeral Home 182 Waldo Ave. Belfast. Funeral services will follow at 2pm on Wednesday at the Sandy Point Congregational Church 698 Us Rt 1 Stockton Springs. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sandy Point Cemetery Association or the Waldo County Home Health and Hospice.
