Obituary of Raymond A Gallagher

Raymond A. Gallagher, 66 of Belfast, Maine passed on March 4th, 2014, after a brief struggle with cancer. Ray was a gentle soul, diligent and wise, brave and true. Above all, he was a loving family man. One of his most cherished family traditions was the annual family vacation on Warren Island. Ray enjoyed sketching lighthouses and seascapes from the shore, walking the island, and visiting with those he loved. Evenings were spent relaxing by the fire, talking, and looking at the stars. On this small island, he felt at peace. Ray retired from Waldo County General Hospital laboratory in 2013. He spoke fondly of his second family at WCGH. Ray spent his career at the hospitals in Belfast and Augusta as a medical technologist. In his spare time he enjoyed doing home renovations. Ray was incredibly handy and volunteered his time to CEDARS hospice home doing general maintenance. He also enjoyed delving into ancient Roman history. Ray was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 9, 1947, to Raymond and Elizabeth Gallagher. He received a BS in Biology from Salisbury State College, Maryland in 1968. After graduating college, Ray served in the US Army, traveling and working in the lab. He was married to Kathryn Cuevas in 1970; they were married until her passing in 2006. Ray joins Kathryn, his parents, and sisters Roberta and Patricia. He is loved and missed by many, especially his longtime companion, Sharon Werner and her family; daughter Stephanie Gallagher (Jonathan Libby), granddaughters Julian and Amelia Libby-Gallagher, step-grandson Ira, and Joan and Jerry Libby; daughter Meg Harrington (Luke Harrington); and brothers Edward and Thomas. His life will be celebrated from 2 - 6pm on Saturday, March 15 at 102 Northport Avenue in Belfast. All are welcome to attend for as little or as long as they wish. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in his memory to C.E.D.A.R.S. hospice house, PO Box 204, Belfast ME, 04915.
