Obituary of Arnold H. Merritt

Ellsworth – Arnold H. Merritt born September 5, 1943 went to meet Jesus face to face on June 23, 2014 He died peacefully at home with his family by his side. Known to many as “Arnie” he was well known probably due to the many jobs that he held over the years. Arnie was on the Ellsworth Police Department and the Ellsworth Fire Department; he worked for Bob Ray, and Fortier Electric. After that he was a self-employed electrician doing business as Bayside Electric. He continued as an electrician “on the side” for a few year while working at the Blue Nose Ferry, Hannaford’s and Dead River. Most recently he worked driving cars for Lee’s (formerly Linnehan’s). He could frequently be seen at the Irving Station and Wayside Market. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jeri McKenzie Merritt; their two children Lauri Merritt-Warren and her husband Marcus Warren; Lisa Merritt Reese, her husband John of Franklin. Arnie is also survived by two daughters from a previous marriage; Jeri White and husband Ken of Ellsworth and Bobbi Jo St. Germain and her husband Billie of Bangor. 7 Grandchildren; Jordan, Brody and Kallie White of Ellsworth, Hilary Hanscom of MA, Sarah Reese of Franklin and Makenzie and Tanah Warren of Sullivan. He is also survived by his best friend, Fred Conley of Ellsworth and a special cousin; Chet Seavey. Arnie is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too numerous to mention. Arnie was pre-deceased by his parents; Richard and Flora Merritt and one brother, Hugh Grant as well as his faithful golden retriever; Shadow. Arrangements made by Direct Cremation of Maine. Family and Friends are invited to gather at the United Baptist Church June 28, 2014 at 2:00 pm for a time of remembrance and fellowship with Pastor John L. Dunn Jr. and Pastor Scott Connors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The United Baptist Church, PO Box 801, Ellsworth, ME 04605.
