Obituary of Ellen M. Curtis

ELLEN M. CURTIS, 90 of Brooks, Maine and Leesburg, Florida, passed away on August 29, 2014 at Harbor Hill Center in Belfast. She was born in Howard, KS, the daughter of Oscar and Sarah (Dorsey) Miller. Ellen married her husband, Robert H. Curtis in El Paso, Texas on August 12, 1943. She was in El Paso to help her sister with her new baby where she met a “cute” U.S. Air Force soldier by the post office steps. They were married for 62 years before he passed away on February 8, 2006. Ellen loved to visit family and friends, shop, listen to country music, play cards and Bingo, walk and warm weather. She was a very hard worker holding many different jobs during her lifetime. She really loved a good joke, especially if Bob was telling it! In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Judith Curtis, a son Richard Curtis; three sisters, Lola King of Lakin, KS, Rosie Gray of Howard, KS, Mary “Lodean” Lauffer of Moline/Winfield, KS; two brothers, John Miller of Howard KS and Charlie Miller of Winfield, KS. Ellen is survived by her daughter, Joyce Carson and husband Raymond of Troy; a son, David Curtis and wife Carol of Belfast; a brother Dwayne Miller and wife Virginia of Sterling, KS; a sister-in-law Mary Miller of Winfield, KS; six grandchildren, Robert Curtis and wife Kristi of Brooks, Darrell Curtis and wife Marie of Hope, April Cooper and husband Stephen of Winterport, Sarah Kenney and husband Phil of Unity, Richard Curtis Jr. and wife Darci of Northport, Travis Carson of Brooks; 11 great grandchildren. Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 9th at Maine Veterans Cemetery Chapel, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Ellen’s memory. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast.
