Obituary of Sharon Lowe Eldridge

Our beloved Sharon(Lowe)Eldridge died Thursday September 4, 2014 at her home in Jackson Maine. Sharon, “Shammy, Aunt Shammy, Noney, Nanny”, was the wife of Robert Eldridge of 54 years. She was born in Hartland, ME in 1941, the middle child of Henry and Iris Lowe. She graduated from Morse Memorial High School in Brooks ME. Sharon was a wife, a mother, a sister, an aunt, a grandmother, a teacher and a friend to many. Sharon followed Robert’s career to South Carolina where she pursued her passion for teaching at The University of South Carolina earning a degree in elementary education. After moving back to Brooks she received her Masters from the University of Maine at Orono. Sharon followed in her mother and grandmother's footsteps and taught kindergarten at Mt. View and then at Brooks where she ended her career as a third generation teacher (31 years). Teaching was a great passion of hers, in the classroom and away. It has been said to see Sharon in the classroom was amazing. She loved each and every kindergarten student she ever had. Sharon was proud to be a teacher and continued to talk about teaching and sharing her experiences and opinions with her daughter even the day before her passing. Sharon adored her children and grandchildren, and cherished the summers when the whole family could be together. Sharon also loved living on the Eldridge Farm and looked forward to her winters in Florida the last several years. Sharon is survived by her husband Robert Eldridge, her daughter Allyn and husband Mark from Jackson, Maine, Jefferson Eldridge and wife Laura from Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren: Danyelle, Kelsey, Mackynzie and Blake from Jacksonville, Florida and Chase Robert Weaver from Jackson, Maine. She is also survived by her sister Barrie Fernald and husband Steve; sisters-in-law Emma Lowe, Beverly Ludden, Shirley Chadbourne and husband Leonard; and many nieces and nephews as well as grand nieces and nephews. Sharon was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Iris Lowe, her brother Albert "Skip" Lowe and a grandson Jefferson Robert Eldridge. We would like to thank a few of Sharon's life-long friends who reached out to her over the last few years when it was difficult for her to get out to see people, taking her to luncheons and helping her finish a knitting project which was very important to her. At Sharon's request there will be a private family graveside service at the Jackson Corner Cemetery. Donations can be made to a Mt. View High School Scholarship Fund in Sharon’s Name, (MV Scholarship Fund MVHS, 577 Mount View Road, Thorndike ME, 04986) for students pursuing a degree in education or to Monroe Elementary School PTO (Monroe Elementary School c/o PTO President, 36 West Main Street, Monroe Maine 04951). Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast. Family and friends are invited to join the family for light refreshments at the Jackson Community Center at 3:00PM, Thursday September 11th.
