Obituary of Mary Jane Mullen

Mary Jane Mullen, 86 of Belfast passed away Tuesday, Dec. 30 at Waldo County General Hospital. She was born in Houlton, Maine on June 28, 1928, the daughter of Leo T. and Helen D. Spain. She graduated from Houlton High School in 1946 and attended Ricker College in Houlton. In 1957 she married Norman Mullen and they moved to Belfast a year later. She was a deputy for the Waldo County Sheriff s Dept., served as an ambulance attendant, and was a member of the state and local beagle dog clubs. She was also active in the Waldo County Extension. Mary was a lovely person to all who knew her. She loved her flowers and gardens and would travel all over the state to visit nurseries and greenhouses. After Norman's retirement, they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada and just riding around the state with their dear friends, Leon and Lillian Gilpatrick, and Barnie and Andy Fish. There were many happy memories at camp on Drew's Lake with family and friends, especially Art and Cookie Farris. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Norman, and her parents. She is survived by one daughter, Brenda Barrett and her husband Robert of Belfast, and four sons, Ronald and partner Patricia Wood, John Patrick and wife Brenda also of Belfast, Douglas Michael of Iowa, Donald of New Hampshire. Also, seven grandchildren: John, Amy, and Scott Mullen; Julie DellaMattera, Marci Mullen, Brian Barrett, Kevin Barrett and wife Molly; seven great-grandchildren: Emerson and Allison DellaMattera, Jeffrey and Eliza Barrett, Vivian Simone and Thatcher Barrett, Zachary and Ethan Dyer. There will be no services. Burial will be in Houlton in the Spring.
