Obituary of Beverly McNeal

Beverly (Lunt) (Johnson) McNeal of Ellsworth, Me, 83 years, died New Year's Eve with her family at her side. She was born on February 1, 1931 in Portland, ME, a daughter of Charles and Edith (Stanley) Lunt. She attended Portland schools and soon after married William "Bill" (Skinner) Johnson in 1947. They lived in Rockland, ME and moving to Swan's Island, ME in 1956. A couple of years following Bill's passing in 1981, Beverly moved off the island and worked at Fernald's General Store in Somesville, ME. She also worked for many local area summer residents, most notably the Rockefeller family in Seal Harbor, ME. She met and married Vinal 'Red' McNeal in 1983. Beverly was very active in several local Bar Harbor organizations. She was a charter member of the MDI Lioness, Deaconess at the Bar Harbor Congregational Church and a member of the Hayseeder's Club. In her later years, she was a desk clerk at the Homestead Motel in Ellsworth, ME. She is survived by her two daughters Sharon Johnson of Ellsworth, ME and Peggy Betts and her life partner Craig Stanley of Port St Lucie, FL; two grandsons, William Betts and partner Danielle Lombardi of Southbury, CT, Scott Betts and wife Hildy Ricciardi of Brookfield, CT and one great-grandson James Henry Betts of Brookfield, CT. Also surviving are two step-daughters, Linda Allen and husband Jon of Fort Worth, TX, and Sandra Ackley and husband Frank of Springfield, VA as well as her brother Leland Lunt and wife Jane of Westbrook, ME, and one brother-in-law Vernon Johnson of Swan's Island, ME; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at a later date at the Rose Hill Cemetery on Swan's Island, ME. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Swan's Island Ambulance Service at P.O. Box 6 Swan's Island, ME 04685, and Hospice of Hancock County at 14 Mckenzie Ave, Ellsworth, ME 04605.
