Obituary of Fred Lucian Thomas

Fred Lucian Thomas Sr., 78, of Belmont, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015 at his home. He was born December 25, 1936 in Searsmont, the son of George and Flora (Fogg) Thomas. Fred grew up in Searsmont. Throughout his life he was an avid outdoor sportsman. He loved to hunt, fish, and go camping. He also loved to take pictures of special people and events. One of his favorite places to go was “upta camp” in Parkman, Maine. After entering the moose lottery since it’s inception, he and his son were both finally selected for permits in 2013, where three generations were able to moose hunt together- a dream come true. Fred served in the US Army, and then went on to work as a heavy equipment operator, and later in life as a truck driver. He was an active member of the American Legion Post #43 in Belfast, and a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge. Fred was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his son Fred Thomas Jr. and his wife Brenda of Islesboro; his daughter Tamela Thomas of Thomaston; his grandchildren Luke Thomas, Emily Thomas, Wendy Dow Piniak and husband Greg Piniak; his sister Mildred Gibbs of Brooks; nephews Jesse and Jimmy Gibbs; and many family and friends. A celebration of life open house will be held at the American Legion at 143 Church Street, Belfast, Maine on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015 from 12-3p.m. Online condolences and memories can be share at Ripostafh.com.
