Obituary of Clifton Earle Grant

JACKSON CLIFTON “CLIF” GRANT, 93 of Jackson, passed away January 9, 2015 in Belfast. He was born in Jackson on April 14, 1921 to Japheth and Maud (Shute) Grant. He was a World War II veteran serving in New Guinea, Phillipines and other islands. He drove a vehicle refueling airplanes. After his discharge in 1945, he came home to Jackson. Clif was a member of American Legion, Grange and Oddfellows in Monroe. He held offices in the Town of Jackson as tax collector, constable and selectman. Clif worked in a shipyard in Portland, hauled wood to the mills, drove school bus as well as milk trucks for Hancock County Creamery and Ed Cross. He enjoyed his family, camping, traveling to Bluegrass festivals in PA, NY, NH, VT and Maine. He also traveled with his camper to all Eastern Provinces of California. Clif enjoyed sitting in his chair by the window watching birds, watching the Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics. He loved his wife and insisted on helping her any way he could. He was predeceased by his parents, a half-brother Earle, a son Larry H. Grant, two sisters Goldie burdette and Adah Scates. Clif is survived by his wife of 72 years, Phyllis Jackson; his children Gloria J. Orcutt of Jackson, Ralph S. Grand and wife Linda of Waldoboro; son-in-law Richard L. Orcutt; grandchildren April J. Small and husband Kenneth III, Alan L. Orcutt and wife Amy, Holly H. Grant, Erik Grant and wife Sonja, Scott Grant, Amy Grant; great-grandchildren Alannah Orcutt, Sydney Orcutt, Sylvia Small, Alex Grant, and Brandon. Thanks to special friends, Billy, Geri and Katie Roberts, Jennifer Larrabee, Dwayne and Becky Porter and the rest of the Porter family, Ruth and Delbert Dodge. Thanks also to Dr. Thomas Maycock and the entire nursing staff of Waldo County General Hospital. Graveside services will be announced in the spring at Jackson Corner Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast.
